2003 - 2004 (Mike's Year)
Ladies Night
 Our
traditional Ladies Night was held at Egypt Mill in Nailsworth this
year. The event acknowledges the often behind-the-scenes support
that our partners and Circle/Tangent have given us throughout the
year - and an excuse to have ball!
March 2004
Skittles vs. Trowbridge 41 Club
Wotton
41 Club requested our assistance in fielding an away team for the
41 Club Skittles Cup. What they didn't tell us was that they didn't
want to win! Sadly we did, so they're through to the next round.
Great night at the Dog & Fox in Ashley.
Feb 2004
Gordon Tonks Night
Gordon
Tonks used to be the landlord of the Star Inn in Wotton, and was
a lifelong supported of both Round Table and Appledore
RNLI Lifeboats. Once a year we hold an evening of silly games
in his memory to raise money for his old cause. An excellent buffet
provided by The Star.

Hot Metal!
Thank
you to David Cullimore of the Gazette
for entertaining us with his collection of faux-pas and double-entendres
from the printed page! Due to the closure of the Swan, this meeting
was held at Hunters Hall.
January 2004
Fountain Crescent Open Day
 Running
the Round Table Barbecue and selling glows at the Fountain Crescent
Open Day.
Christmas Party
 Christmas
party at the newly refurbished Town Hall. Somehow a vote got passed
that it would be Fish 'n Chips this year instead of the traditional
Christmas Fare!
December 2003
Palma de Mallorca
Find
out what we got up to on our Vice Chairman's "Vice" weekend
to Palma, Mallorca. Full report here!
November 2003
Visit to Uley Brewery
Thanks
to Chaz Wright for a very informative tour and talk on the art of
brewing and putting up with 15 drunkards in his cellar. My favourite
was the Uley Bitter, but we also sampled the Laurie Lee's Bitter,
Old Spot, and Pig's Ear. The beers are made from local spring water.
Very nice <hic!>, and a great shame there aren't any outlets
in Wotton!
Brewing
on this site started as Price's Brewery in 1833, at a time
when there were 13 pubs in Uley(!). Closed in 1900, the brewery
survived the planning vandalism of the 1960's when permission was
granted to demolish it, and was restored and reopened in 1985. It
has a capacity of 60 barrels per week, and now being Grade-I listed,
can't be expanded.
November 2003
Wotton Rovers Youth Football Team
Wotton
Round Table recently donated £450 to the Wotton Rovers Youth
Team to enable them to purchase practice equipment and much-needed
new strip for the under 9's - resplendent with Round Table Rondel!
And of course our best wishes for their forthcoming fixtures.
Go get 'em, lads!
Wotton 750th Charter
Nine
of us were involved in the Meadieval Fair held in Wotton to celebrate
the 750th anniversary of its Market Charter. Absolutely shattered,
but what a fantastic day! Ladies Circle and 41 Club were there too.

October 2003
Canoeing
A
calm and peaceful evening canoeing along the Gloucester Sharpness
canal - to a pub (of course) - and back again by the light of a
beautiful sunset.
Prescott Downhill
Unpowered
go-karts racing down the Prescott Hill Climb Circuit (Courtesy of
the Bugatti Owners Club).
It may not look much, but a lot of care and effort
went into the Wotton Rocket! Sadly we didn't win, despite Darren's
sterling (or should that be Stirling Moss) effort.
Evesham Raft Race
Despite
dastardly tactics by the opposition, Wotton's 'A' team (Ian and
Darren) power home to a well deserved victory, winning the Evesham
Raft Race!
July 2003
Skittles vs 41 Club
At
The Kingshill in Dursley. Sadly, we were beaten by the narrowest
of margins by 41 Club! Something to do with the fact that "borrowed"
some of our players, I reckon!
May 2003
Megabowl
Despite
Rob's best efforts to break the machinery and Dave's attempt at
the slowest-moving strike ball record, a great evening out at the
Megabowl in Gloucester.

Climbing the Cuillins
After
a disturbing moment when we thought Dave P's impromptu talk was
going to be a striptease, in fact he kept us fascinated with a talk
on hill walking in Skye and the sort of equipment he uses.
London to Lands End Trial
Unfortunately
we didn't compete! But we were treated to a very interesting talk
on the subject by Barry
Kirton, with recent video footage and some from 1928 (despite problems
with the Audio/Visual equipment!).
